Overview

Gems: Bible Meditation is an iOS Bible meditation journal app by TapShiftDev that helps you capture daily spiritual insights, track your meditation streak, and organize reflections with photos, voice memos, and location data. This policy explains how your information is handled.

Data Collection

We do NOT collect:

• Personal information
• Journal entries or meditations
• Usage analytics
• Location data (never sent to servers)
• Device identifiers
• Browsing or app activity

We store locally on your device:

• Your journal entries and scripture reflections
• Photos attached to entries
• Voice memos you record
• Location data (if you choose to enable it)
• Streak and badge progress
• App preferences and settings

iCloud Sync (Optional)

Gems offers an optional iCloud Sync feature that allows you to sync your journal entries across your Apple devices.

How iCloud Sync Works:

• Disabled by default: iCloud Sync is OFF when you first install the app
• Your choice: You can enable it anytime in Settings > Data & Privacy
• Your iCloud account: Data syncs to YOUR personal iCloud account, not our servers
• End-to-end encryption: Your data is encrypted and stored in your private iCloud container
• We have no access: We cannot see, access, or retrieve your synced data
• Apple's privacy: Synced data is subject to Apple's iCloud Terms and Privacy Policy

What Gets Synced (when enabled):

• Journal entries and reflections
• Scripture references
• Tags and organization
• Photos and voice memos attached to entries
• Location data (if you've added it to entries)
• Streak progress and badges

Disabling iCloud Sync:

You can disable iCloud Sync at any time in Settings > Data & Privacy. When disabled, your data remains on your current device and stops syncing to iCloud.

How It Works

• All journal entries are created and stored only on your device using SwiftData
• Photos and voice memos are saved in your app's private Documents folder
• Location tagging is completely optional and stored locally
• Streak calculations happen on your device
• No data is ever transmitted to our servers
• No internet connection required for core functionality

Permissions We Request

Camera & Photo Library (Optional)

Used only to attach photos to your journal entries. Photos are stored locally on your device.

Microphone (Optional)

Used only to record voice memos for your entries. Recordings are stored locally on your device.

Location (Optional)

Used only to tag where you created an entry. Location data is stored locally and never sent to any servers.

Notifications (Optional)

Used only to send you daily meditation reminders if enabled. Notification preferences are stored locally.

Third-Party Services

JW.org Links (Optional)

The app provides optional links to JW.org for Bible reading. Clicking these links opens your browser or the JW Library app. We do not track these clicks.

We do not use any analytics, tracking, or advertising services.

Data Storage

Local Storage (Default):

• All data stored locally via SwiftData
• Media files stored in app's Documents directory
• Settings stored in UserDefaults (on-device only)
• Your device passcode/biometrics protect your data
• Deleting the app permanently removes all local data

iCloud Storage (When Enabled):

• Data synced to your personal iCloud account
• Encrypted in your private CloudKit container
• Subject to Apple's iCloud privacy practices
• We cannot access your iCloud data
• Removing from iCloud requires managing it through your Apple ID settings

Security

• Data protected by iOS device encryption
• Face ID / Touch ID authentication (device-level)
• No network transmission of personal data
• Regular app updates for security improvements

Children's Privacy

Gems is safe for all ages. Since we collect no data, there are no special privacy concerns for children beyond standard device security practices.

This app complies with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act):

• No collection of personal information from children under 13
• No targeted advertising to children
• No behavioral tracking
• No sale of children's information

Your Rights

• Access: All your data is visible within the app
• Deletion: Delete individual entries or all data from the app
• Portability: Your data stays on your device; you control it
• No tracking: We don't track, profile, or analyze your behavior
